OneDrive vs. SharePoint

  • OneDrive: your personal work files, which you can share when needed
  • SharePoint and Teams: shared team and company files that belong to a group

Share a file or folder

  1. Open OneDrive or SharePoint in your browser, or right-click the file in File Explorer or Finder.
  2. Click Share.
  3. Choose who the link works for. Pick "People you choose" or "People in your organization" whenever possible.
  4. Enter the names or email addresses of the people you want to share with.
  5. Choose whether they can edit or only view.
  6. Click Send, or Copy link to paste it yourself.

Avoid "Anyone with the link" for confidential information. Anyone who obtains that link can open the file.

Stop sharing

  1. Select the file and choose Manage access.
  2. Remove a person or delete the link.

Sharing outside the company may be restricted by your organization's security settings. Contact us if you need to share with an external partner.
