Accidentally deleted or overwrote a file? Microsoft 365 keeps deleted items and earlier versions, so you can usually get them back yourself.

Restore a deleted file

  1. Open OneDrive or the SharePoint site in your browser.
  2. Click Recycle bin in the left menu (in SharePoint, it may be under Site contents).
  3. Select the file or folder and click Restore.
  4. The item returns to its original location.

Deleted items in work and school accounts are usually kept for up to 93 days. If you cannot find the file in the recycle bin, submit a ticket. We may be able to recover it from backup.

Go back to an earlier version

  1. Find the file in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  2. Right-click it and choose Version history.
  3. Open the version you want and choose Restore.

Restore an entire OneDrive

If many files were deleted, changed or encrypted, OneDrive can be restored to an earlier date. Contact us before trying this, especially if you suspect ransomware.
